Tether Token (USDT) Is Now Available on Celo

Tether Operations Limited (Tether) deploys native USDT on Celo mainnet, a mobile-first and EVM-compatible blockchain network fast becoming the industry’s best platform for stablecoins and real-world asset (RWA) use cases. Following an earlier announcement on March 11 announcing Tether and the Celo ecosystem’s partnership, today’s integration further facilitates an integral pathway for greater stablecoin adoption and simplifies onchain payment experiences to bolster real-world adoption and usage of crypto.

This expansion introduces USDT to Celo’s robust ecosystem with over 1,000 partners in 150 countries, including Opera MiniPay’s ultralight stablecoin wallet in Kenya and Ghana, among other countries, having recently crossed 2 million users across Africa. Core contributor cLabs has also outlined plans in a community forum post to propose making USDT an official gas fee currency, further streamlining transactions.
